10 Ways to Meet New People in Your Community

We all know that one way we get referrals is through the people we know. Here is a list of ways to meet new people in your community. Whether or not it builds your business, it's still a wonderful way to connect to different types of people.

Join a health club.
Meet people while getting fit! Taking a class that the club offers allows you to see the same people weekly, lending opportunity for conversation.

Explore your community's offereings. Check out museums, local parks, historical sites and libraries. You can find much of this information in the front section of your local yellow pages.

Join a book club. Reading books and sharing your opinions is a great way to get to know people. There are many neighborhood book clubs (ask around) or try your local library.

Walk your dog. Dogs are great people-meeters! Go to parks, the beach, school fields and town square.

Go to seminars. Learn something new and make new friends with similar interests.

Get involved with local politics. Who knows, maybe you could be the next mayor of your town. Attend city council meetings to learn more.

Join an investment club. Make money (hopefully) while making new friends.

Join a business association. If you are a professional, join your local association. Network for your business and personal life.

Attend or host community events and parties. Attend a black-tie fundraiser, or host a neighborhood block party. Newspapers are a great resource for finding out about upcoming events and social opportunities such as concerts, cooking and crafts classes, community theatre groups and sporting events.

Volunteer. If you are passionate about a cause and like to help others, volunteering is an excellent way to connect with others.
